Dear Friends
Please accept our warmest thanks for participating in our 2009 golf tournament.
Your goodwill helped to make the golf tournament a huge success. We sold out completely and raised more than $7,500.00 for the benefit of the Huronia Hospital Foundation and Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church.
By popular demand, we’re back at Brookela this year. I enclose the enrolment forms to this year’s tournament. We hope you will be able to join us.

A short history of our golf tournament
In 1998, an idea formed to attract people to our church, help raise funds, and broaden the church’s involvement in our local community – hold an annual golf tournament. Thus sprung the first golf tournament, which has continued to date, and the first golf committee.
To give credit where due, in 1997, Chester Bortkiewicz, organized a small group of friends to play at Balm Beach and return to the Church for hotdogs and beverages. Thus historically, 1998 was the second golf tournament.
Semantics aside, we are now in our 13th year, and have raised in excess of $125,000 for the church and local charities, including the Penetanguishene Mental Health Centre, The YMCA Child Care Centre in Midland, the Midland General Hospital, The Big Brothers of North Simcoe, The Big Sisters Association of Huronia, and others. Our golfers have enjoyed testing their skills at Brooklea Golf & Country Club in Midland, Banty’s Roost Golf Club in Toronto, and Baywood Golf & Country Club in Wasaga Beach.
As one might imagine, it took many people to make the annual tournament a success. Friends and some cottage owners formed the first golf committee: Chester Bortkiewicz, Bob Kopij, Bob Matys, Andy Andruchiw, Jerry Kolodij and Bohdan Bodnaruk. Andy Adruchiw left after 7 years, and Wally Lachmaniuk joined. Chester Bortkiewicz, Bob Kopij, Bob Matys, Jerry Kolodij, Bohdan Bodnaruk, and Wally Lachmaniuk, organized the gala 10th anniversary tournament. Bob Kopij, and Wally Lachmaniuk resigned after 2007. We are grateful for their creativity, work, and help.
By having the dinner after the tournament at the church each year until 1997 on the civic long weekend in August, we showcased the church, were able to make use of the party tent the church put up annually for its festival, and provided a great meal to the golfers, sponsors, and any hungry paying guests, consisting of a sumptuous pig roast and buffet. In actuality the golf committee had nothing to with the dinner. It was all organized, and run by Olha Bodnaruk for 10 years. Who knew my wife could cook for 140 people. Thank you Olha.
We moved the post tournament dinner after 2007, to the golf club. With any luck we will reintroduce the pig roast at the church in the near future.
None of our success would have been possible without the help of all our sponsors, most of whom donate each year, Vito Montesano, who for 5 years provided the pigs and staff to cook them, and of course the golfers.
